Welcome To Rotary Canterbury Sunrise

The Rotary Club of Canterbury Sunrise started about 2 years ago and has gone from strength to strength, with more than thirty members and a variety of activities. Our members, working business men and women from the Canterbury area, meet for an hour on Wednesday mornings for breakfast at 7.15am, in the splendid setting of the Cathedral Lodge in the precincts of Canterbury Cathedral.

Rotary is about fellowship with other members whilst making a difference to the local community and supporting international service projects. The focus for 2010/11 encompasses this diversity as we are supporting a number of charitable projects, in particular the local choir of the Parkinsons Society and Five Talents, an international micro-finance charity.

"It is easy to understand that by working together we can make a difference and have an impact. Rotary brings together 1.2 million people internationally and can support projects that would be difficult to achieve for other organisations, such as the Polio eradication campaign or the "Shelterbox" disaster fast response initiative" Lucy Druesne, Sunrise club President.

Fundraising activities are varied and have included meals and pub evenings, old mobile phone collections, sponsored diet/exercise challenges, the "3 peaks challenge", help with marshalling at events and, of course, the now traditional Canterbury Christmas Santa Float, for 2 weeks in early December.

As described by our founder president, Jarle Tatt, "Our club is proof that Rotary can be modern, flexible and appeal to all professions, to men and women of all ages (our members range in age from 30-60). We all enjoy Fun, Fellowship and Service, the cornerstone of Rotary".

There has been a Rotary Club in Canterbury since 1922 and there are currently three clubs, Sunrise for breakfast, the original club that meets at lunchtime and also an evening club, Canterbury Forest of Blean, providing flexibility as well as diversity.

If you are interested in widening your circle of friends, whilst giving something back to the community, please contact us. We would be pleased to welcome you for breakfast or introduce you to one of the other clubs in Canterbury.
